A New Chapter for Emergency & Specialty Veterinary Care in the East Bay
The East Bay veterinary community has faced significant challenges since the closure of Bay Area Veterinary Specialists (BAVS) earlier this year. Many pet families have experienced longer travel times, limited access to specialty services, and fewer options during emergencies.
Today, we’re excited to share some good news.
A new independently owned emergency and specialty veterinary hospital is coming soon to San Leandro!
OPENING June 22, 2026!
Washington Avenue Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (WAVES) is being created by a team of experienced veterinarians, veterinary leaders, and hospital professionals who have dedicated their careers to caring for pets throughout the East Bay. Their mission is simple: to restore access to exceptional emergency and specialty care while providing compassionate support for pets and the people who love them.
WAVES will offer:
- Emergency Care
- Internal Medicine
- Oncology
- Surgery
Additional specialty services are planned as the hospital continues to grow.
The hospital’s founding team includes:
- Dr. Claire Legallet, DVM (Emergency)
- Dr. Anna Nomura, VMD, MS (Emergency)
- Dr. Erin Kishi, DVM, DACVS-SA (Surgery)
- Ruben Carlos, Hospital Director
- Dr. Karen Truong, DVM, Veterinary Leadership
- Evan Hendrickson, RVT, Veterinary Leadership
Together, they bring decades of experience in emergency and specialty medicine and share a commitment to delivering high-quality care, clear communication, and a positive experience for both pets and their families.
WAVES will be located in San Leandro at the former BAVS facility and is currently preparing to welcome patients.
